Eating Disorder Therapist Los Angeles
Meet Kindful Body’s newest Los Angeles eating disorder therapist, Lauren Lambert. Lauren is currently an associate professional clinical counselor (APCC) and is under the supervision of Ashley Ellis Eid, LMFT.
Lauren received her Bachelor’s in psychology and health education at Southern Illinois University and a Master’s in clinical counseling from Lindenwood University. She has spent 9 years working in the mental health field in a variety of roles and settings, including eating disorder inpatient, residential, PHP, and IOP levels of care.
Lauren specializes in working with adults and adolescents struggling with anorexia, bulimia, binge eating and substance use. She also specializes in treating depression, anxiety, body image, relational issues, self-harm, and perfectionism. Once she becomes licensed, Lauren aims to become a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist through the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp).
Her own experience with an eating disorder, beginning at age 12, inspired her to enter this field.
“Through my own therapeutic process and recovery, I set the intention of helping others find recovery. I’ve developed a sense of gratitude towards my suffering and struggle in that it helped me find a deeper meaning in connection and how empathy, compassion, vulnerability contribute to helping others and myself.”
She draws from her own experience and evidence-based treatment approaches to be the best support she can be for her clients at Kindful Body.
“As a clinician, I want my clients to feel a sense of comfort in knowing they aren’t being judged or invalidated. I value an approach that tailors to each individual’s needs, going at a pace that feels safe to the client. I believe in discussing the common humanity in suffering because shame and struggles are what build a deeper, therapeutic connection.”
Lauren recognizes a common theme in her clients’ struggles: their eating disorders are a form of communication through self-punishment.
“Instead of clients vocalizing their needs, they use behaviors to communicate them. Through starvation, purging, binge eating, and so on, the client is screaming, ‘Please see me!’”
Lauren’s approach to addressing this issue of eating disorder behaviors being used as a cry for help starts with deconstructing clients’ negative beliefs about their own self-worth. She finds it helpful to bring in family members for sessions that tackle communication and clients’ needs.
Lauren wants potential clients to know:
You do not have to be suffering to seek therapy.
Healing is a process that is not a race and is individualized.
You do not have to punish yourself for the consequences of your suffering.
When she’s not working with clients, she enjoys exploring the variety of cuisines in Los Angeles with her husband, snuggling with her fur babies, going to the beach, thrifting, and interior design.
