We are excited to announce that we have a new clinician ready to help you on your eating disorder recovery journey. Samantha Young, LPCC is trained in IFS (Internal Family Systems Therapy), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy), Clinical Hypnosis and DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy).
The mental health field is a natural fit for Samantha. “I found that I always had a heart for people and was very compassionate. I was always listening to others and felt very called to do so,” she shared.
She decided to enter this particular counseling field while working at an eating disorder and trauma treatment center after receiving her undergraduate degree. In addition to eating disorder therapy, she specializes in trauma, dissociative identity disorder and working with military and veterans. She believes we still have a long way to go in the eating disorder field in terms of understanding. “There is still a lot of misinformation out there that individuals experience within the medical profession as well as in the mental health profession.”
She is committed to understanding eating disorders in all of their complexity, and aims to treat them like any other mental illness.
She wants clients to know that seeking therapy is not a sign of weakness. “We are hardwired as humans to connect to other humans and to turn to them in a variety of ways both when struggling and when doing well.”
She advises new clients to find a therapist that makes them “feel at ease but challenged throughout the process.”
Samantha brings humor, personality, and compassion to every session and helps clients tackle obstacles in creative ways. She aims to help clients to learn to love themselves by guiding them towards knowing their worth. Her hope is that clients will discover that they have the agency to define themselves independently of their pasts.
When she’s not in therapist mode, Samantha is a proud dog mom to a very energetic border collie and an avid cook who explores and creates new recipes in her free time. She also loves nature, hiking and finding stillness at the beach.
